Waking up aged muscle stem cells
Muscle stem cells, the cells that rebuild muscle after damage, lose their drive with age as NAD+ falls and SIRT1 weakens. In 24 month old mice, NNMT inhibition made these cells divide and fuse again. Muscle fibres regrew almost twice as large after injury, and muscle force rose by about 70 percent. This is a direct repair effect on aging muscle.
