Bacteriostatic Water · How it works
A gentler needle
Benzyl alcohol is also a weak local anaesthetic. It quietens the small nerve endings in the skin for a few moments, which is why a preserved solution stings less going in than plain water does. This is used on purpose in clinics: preserved saline is injected before a fine needle to dull the skin first. For a daily peptide dose it means the injection is simply easier to do.
