IGF-1 LR4 · How it works
The IGF-1 receptor
It binds the IGF-1 receptor, a tyrosine kinase on the surface of muscle, bone, cartilage, skin, nerve and fat cells. The receptor phosphorylates IRS-1, which switches on PI3K, Akt and mTOR, the master pathway for building protein. A second branch, MAPK, tells cells to divide. Together they make cells grow, multiply and survive.
