MOTS-c · How it works
Nuclear stress response
When glucose is short or stress is high, MOTS-c moves from the mitochondria into the nucleus, driven by AMPK. There it works with NRF2 to turn on antioxidant response genes. The cell builds its defences and adapts. The mitochondria literally talk to the nucleus.
