Cycles and breaks

The natural cycle is the year itself. Through the winter months, when there is little light to defend against, there is usually no reason to carry on, and pigment returns to your own baseline over one to two months. That break also gives a clean window to re-photograph moles against the earlier pictures. Nothing is lost by stopping: the receptor does not become tired or used up, and starting again in spring works as it did before.
