Oxytocin Acetate · How it works
The oxytocin receptor
Oxytocin binds one receptor, OXTR, a G-protein receptor that works through Gq. That raises calcium inside the cell and switches on its response: muscle contraction in the uterus and breast, nitric oxide release in vessels, and firing changes in neurons. The receptor sits in the brain, heart, vessels, gut, fat, bone and skin. That spread explains the range of its effects.
