Survodutide
The story
Survodutide was designed by Zealand Pharma in Copenhagen and developed with Boehringer Ingelheim in Germany. Tina Zimmermann's team published its discovery in 2022, showing strong weight loss in animals beyond what GLP-1 alone could give, driven by higher energy use. Arun Sanyal then showed in 2024 that it reverses fatty liver inflammation and fibrosis in most people who carry it. Russian endocrinologists studying oxyntomodulin after bariatric surgery found the same dual signal rises when weight falls fast, and 2025 Russian reviews by Shestakova and by Berkovskaya and Fadeev place survodutide among the leading glucagon-based drugs.
